Ghafari Structural Engineer in United States

Responsibilities

Ghafari Associates is looking for a STRUCTURAL ENGINEER* to join the team. This role will support FORD (see below) and can be FULLY REMOTE, HYBRID or 100% IN-OFFICE in DEARBORN, MI . Ford employees are currently working 100% remote, but frequent Ford sites in the U.S. (many of which in the Michigan area). If you would like to work in an office, Ghafari would be able to accommodate you in our HQ office and/or Ford would be able to find you space as well.

Ghafari Associates, LLC (in association with Ford Motor Company) is seeking talented professionals to help lead the transformation of our building engineering as we realize a shift toward a more human focused and inspirational experience within our built environments. We recognize the role the built environment has on the occupants and challenge ourselves to progress design thinking in all aspects of architecture, engineering and sustainability. This position will be part of the Ghafari team working exclusively with Ford Motor Company and the Ford Land Architecture/Engineering/Planning division.

As the owner’s representative throughout the engineering design process, the Electrical Engineer will engage with the broader team of internal and external design professionals + engineers, alongside strategic consultants to ensure the projects advance in alignment with corporate strategies and design standards, to deliver best in class engineering. Responsible for overseeing the initial project Scope Development + Design Strategy, the Electrical Engineer will ensure that the project progresses in alignment with strategic engineering + design principles and guidelines throughout the delivery of the project. The Electrical Engineer will be tasked with overseeing several concurrent projects at various phases of the design and construction process. The day-to-day responsibilities will vary but may include initial concept design creation, drawing review and markups, contract administration and site walks, and overall strategy development.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Support facility planning and design efforts for major manufacturing projects in North America. This includes directing the design efforts of Architects and Engineers to provide optimized life cycle cost designs that meet client requirements and discipline based engineering support during the implementation and launch phase of these projects.

  • Drive the standardization of global processes through the Global Facilities Forum. Leverage the forum for continuous improvement of facility standards and specifications, best practice sharing and technical innovation. Support design, engineering and standards committees which support this effort (Specifications Team, Architectural/Structural Global Facilities Forum, New Construction Fire Review Committee, Global Safety Team)

  • Drive global sustainability initiatives in commercial, retail, manufacturing, research, and test facilities. Provide subject matter expertise for this work in the NA region, and support the regional Directors in FSOA, APA, MEA, and FoE, to develop and implement global project specifications and standards.

  • Drive the use of new technology, construction methods, and materials to maximize capital investment efficiency and sustainability in all corporate infrastructure programs. Provide facility engineering analysis and recommended prioritization for Capital Investment Budgets.

  • Drive the practice and standards of new design technology, including the implementation of 3-D software, BIM, Codes, etc. and coordinate with our A/E Alliance partners and current “industry standards.”

  • Manage interactions with government authorities/municipalities/agencies to ensure that facilities comply with local codes, laws and recommended practices. Support and maintain positive relationships with communities in which we operate to enhance long term working relationship with community officials.

  • Assist in the selection of sites, buildings and facilities for acquisition and use, providing technical advice and guidance.

  • Advise on the selection of planning, design and engineering consultants retained directly or indirectly for design/build, construction management and program management project delivery systems.

  • Deliver engineering services and drive the development of processes which ensures prompt and thorough engineering advice, evaluations, alternatives analysis, and feasibility studies to a diverse customer base.

  • Support the 'Engineering Clearinghouse', a recurring venue to ensure a collaborative, innovative and knowledge based process critical to the delivery of all projects, resulting in safe, sustainable, productive and cost efficient facilities for client and effective workplaces for our employees.

*Candidate is not required to have a professional engineer license.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering

  • Professional Registration preferred

  • LEED accredited professional preferred

Experience:

  • 10+ years of related experience in structural engineering field (industrial project background if possible)

Skills/Competencies:

  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD

  • Other software knowledge in any of the following is preferred: SAP 2000, RISA, RAM, Tekla

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Strong attention to detail
