Ghafari Mechanical - Electrical Specifications Writer (AE Industry) in United States

Responsibilities

Ghafari Associates, LLC., is looking for a Mechanical - Electrical Specifications Writer to join the team. Candidates are eligible to work 100% in office or hybrid (out of one of our six U.S. offices), or 100% remote .

The Mechanical-Electrical Specifications Writer, with general direction from the Lead Specifications Writer and/or the Mechanical and Electrical Managers, coordinates the preparation of Mechanical and Electrical Specifications (establishing material requirements and describing installation) for Mechanical and Electrical disciplines; Establishes and maintains office standard M&E Specifications Library. In-person, remote, or hybrid work options available.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with project managers, architects and engineers to prepare specifications for schematic, design development and construction documents.

  • Provide mentorship and embrace opportunities for learning with less experienced staff throughout the course of the project.

  • Coordinate and expedite specification preparation among the M&E disciplines; coordinate word processing support to produce final M&E specification documents to meet project schedules.

  • Conduct technical investigation of products, materials and construction methods.

  • Review selected complex submittals for conformance with contract documents.

  • Ensure compliance with related codes and regulations imposed by governing authorities.

  • Prepare written portion of addenda and bulletins relating to M&E specifications.

  • Gather on-site data pertinent to the preparation of specifications.

  • Prepare contract conditions, general and bidding requirements as required.

  • Revise, maintain, and establish new standard M&E specifications required for a given custom assignment.

  • Establish and update procedures related to the maintenance of job files.

  • Research advanced specification software for new Revit/BIM applications.

  • Efficiently use client specification library editing software.

  • Organize and maintain master keynote list.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management

  • Registered Architect or Engineer preferred

  • CDT, CCCA, and/or CCS Certification preferred

Experience:

  • 10+ years’ experience writing specification documents in architectural/engineering industry

Skills/Competencies:

  • Familiar with Master Spec, Master Works, SpecLink Cloud, SpecsIntact, Specpoint, and Microsoft Office applications

  • Knowledgeable in Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks software

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
