Ghafari Interior Designer in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Job Description:

General Summary:

With some supervision from the Director of Design and/or Senior Designers, takes responsibility for the general upkeep of the finish material library and execution of a variety of design and technical tasks focused on interior design.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage the in-house finish material library. This includes but is not limited to the curation and maintenance of it. Contact and meetings with material vendors, sample procurement and replacement, general organization, and filing of finish samples during all project phases.

  • Support project teams through sample procurement, preparation of sample binders, and project archiving.

  • Assist in the creation of mood boards, color schemes, and material palettes in either physical and/or digital format.

  • Support the team in the selection of furniture and ancillary furnishings and accessories.

  • Assist in design tasks of limited scope, including, programming, space planning, elevation studies, finish, and furniture selections, etc. under the guidance of a Senior Designer.

  • Assist in preparing presentations, conceptual drawings, sketches, and/or 3D images/renderings based on the candidate’s proficiency, skill, and knowledge of design and design tools.

  • Assists in the preparation of interior-related schematic, design development, and construction documents (furniture plans, millwork, schedules, etc.).

  • Assists in the preparation of project specifications (providing manufacturer information).

  • Assist in the construction administration process with review of interior-related RFIs and submittals.

  • As appropriate may run entire project of limited scope under close guidance from Senior Designer or Project Manager.

  • Possess/demonstrate communication skills to work with all assigned project team members and be motivated to engage, ask questions, and be mentored.

  • Stay updated on industry standards and best practices in interior design.

  • Performs other related interior design duties as assigned.

Employment Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Interior Architecture or Interior Design

Experience:

  • 2-6 years of experience in an Interior Design role

  • Complete NCIDQ examination eligibility requirements for the NCIDQ exam

  • LEED and/or WELL Building Certification preferred.

Skills/Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUP/Enscape, InDesign, and other related design and rendering software.

  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk BIM360, and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) is helpful, but not required.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Microsoft Teams.

  • Possess strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.

  • Knowledge of industry vendors/manufacturers.

  • Excellent organizational skills including strong attention to detail and time management.
