Ghafari Human Resources Generalist in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Responsibilities

General Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist supports the Human Resources department as an advisor to management and employees on employee relations, performance and HR laws. This position will report to the Dearborn, MI HQ offices where the rest of the HR team is located. Travel to the Chicago office is expected, as this individual will be overseeing the Chicago office in addition to the Grand Rapids office. There are no other HR representatives in the Grand Rapids or Chicago offices. An ideal candidate will be able to work independently, manage their time and the offices from an HR standpoint, but still collaborate and interface daily with the HR team in Dearborn, MI.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Serve as an HR representative to employees in Grand Rapids/Chicago and remote locations domestically. Some international offices involvement related to posting jobs, and coordinating offer letters. (no international travel is required for this position)

  • Provide counsel to managers on employee relation issues including but not limited to: coaching, counseling, discipline and termination of employment

  • Understand and ensure compliance with applicable laws, company policies and procedures

  • Assist the in the administration of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) program, to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of the company

  • Recruit for various technical and administrative positions in Grand Rapids/Chicago and remote domestic locations. Includes sourcing resumes, reviewing resumes that have been sent to HR, establishing interviews, selection process, making offers, and all on-boarding activities (virtual and in-person). Posting positions for international offices.

  • Investigate issues such as grievances and disciplinary actions

  • Various administrative tasks, including but not limited to: entering data into the HRIS system, reviewing new hire paperwork for all employees, Covid-19 related tasks such as ensuring cleaning logs are maintained, checking in visitor/employee questionnaires, reviewing RTO handbooks + signage.

  • Coordinate training when requested

  • Conduct exit interviews and process terminations

  • Participate as human resources team member on special projects

  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Employment Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or an equivalent field of study

Experience:

  • 5+ years of professional human resources experience demonstrating knowledge, skills and ability to perform the job

  • Previous experience within a global organization preferred

Skills/Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Windows 10, HRIS software (preferably iVantage), recruiting and online applicant tracking systems

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • A/E experience preferred but not required

Licenses/Certifications

  • PHR/SPHR preferred
