Ghafari Structural Engineer in Dearborn, Michigan
The Structural Engineer is responsible to have a thorough understanding of all the various building types within client's North American portfolio (i.e. manufacturing facilities, commercial office buildings, research and engineering centers, etc.) and to act as a team member for design, engineering, building codes, regulatory requirements and sustainable designs. This position provides stewardship, strategic design and engineering direction, technical advice on civil & structural systems to client, our customers, and business partners. This position leads discipline based input for project scope development, design review of new construction projects, renovations and capital infrastructure programs across all of client's NA strategic business units and also participates in Global Facilities Forum issues globally. It is critical that this individual is experienced in both civil and structural disciplines sufficiently to ensure the efficacy of the designs proposed. Professional Engineering accreditation in either of the areas would be preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
Support facility planning and design efforts for major manufacturing projects in North America. This includes directing the design efforts of Architects and Engineers to provide optimized life cycle cost designs that meet client requirements and discipline based engineering support during the implementation and launch phase of these projects.
Drive the standardization of global processes through the Global Facilities Forum. Leverage the forum for continuous improvement of facility standards and specifications, best practice sharing and technical innovation. Support design, engineering and standards committees which support this effort (Specifications Team, Architectural/Structural Global Facilities Forum, New Construction Fire Review Committee, Global Safety Team)
Drive global sustainability initiatives in commercial, retail, manufacturing, research, and test facilities. Provide subject matter expertise for this work in the NA region, and support the regional Directors in FSOA, APA, MEA, and FoE, to develop and implement global project specifications and standards.
Drive the use of new technology, construction methods, and materials to maximize capital investment efficiency and sustainability in all corporate infrastructure programs. Provide facility engineering analysis and recommended prioritization for Capital Investment Budgets.
Drive the practice and standards of new design technology, including the implementation of 3-D software, BIM, Codes, etc. and coordinate with our A/E Alliance partners and current “industry standards.”
Manage interactions with government authorities/municipalities/agencies to ensure that facilities comply with local codes, laws and recommended practices. Support and maintain positive relationships with communities in which we operate to enhance long term working relationship with community officials.
Assist in the selection of sites, buildings and facilities for acquisition and use, providing technical advice and guidance.
Advise on the selection of planning, design and engineering consultants retained directly or indirectly for design/build, construction management and program management project delivery systems.
Deliver engineering services and drive the development of processes which ensures prompt and thorough engineering advice, evaluations, alternatives analysis, and feasibility studies to a diverse customer base.
Support the 'Engineering Clearinghouse', a recurring venue to ensure a collaborative, innovative and knowledge based process critical to the delivery of all projects, resulting in safe, sustainable, productive and cost efficient facilities for client and effective workplaces for our employees.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Professional Registration preferred
LEED accredited professional preferred
- 10+ years of related and progressively more responsible experience in mechanical engineering field
Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD
Other software knowledge in any of the following is preferred: SAP 2000, RISA, RAM, Tekla
