Ghafari Lead Sustainability Specialist in Dearborn, Michigan
Job Description:
General Summary:
The Lead Sustainability Specialist is responsible for providing sustainable design leadership and coordination, energy and environmental analysis for planning, architecture, and interiors projects, as well as oversight for certification under sustainability, health, and wellness standards such as LEED, BREEAM, WELL and fitwel. Contribute to marketing pursuits and participate in a broad range of sustainable consulting services.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage sustainable design analysis, conceptual energy modeling, and sustainable consulting services.
Manage consulting with multiple internal design teams on LEED, WELL, BREEAM, fitwel and sustainable projects.
Assist clients, designers, engineers and contractors with sustainable design research and implementation.
Manage consulting with clients on building and non-building projects and collaborating on firm wide sustainable design and consulting projects. Projects may include various LEED rating systems, WELL and fitwel. Projects may include development of sustainable design and operations guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Goal setting and benchmarking projects under Ghafari’s sustainability commitment.
Manage implementation of Ghafari’s sustainability plan.
Prepare materials for sustainable design awards.
Support sustainable design education and provide mentorship of such within the Ghafari organization.
Foster and support a green workplace through sustainable work practices and operations.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor degree in architecture, mechanical or environmental engineering, interiors or sustainable design required; Master’s degree preferred.
6+ years’ experience desirable.
LEED credential required, specialty credential highly desirable.
Additional Skills
Proficiency in MS Office and the Adobe Creative Suite.
Proficiency with AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop, Revit, Sketch-Up, and/or related software.
Ability to interpret and apply results from energy and environmental performance analysis: Conceptual Energy Modeling; Daylight Analysis; Renewable Energy Systems and Lifecycle Analysis (LCA).
Ability to interpret and apply results from Design Analysis software, such as: Revit Insight, Grasshopper, DIVA, Honeybee, Ladybug, Tally, WUFI, THERM, HEAT3.
Ability to interpret and apply results from Energy Analysis software, such as: EnergyPlus, eQuest, IES.
Knowledge of sustainability, building science, integrated design and 3rd party certification processes.
Proven presentation and communication skills to both team and client.
Experience with management of team/resources to undertake multiple projects or facets of various projects.
Strong organizational skills to manage documentation and information and meet deadlines.
Ability to work in team environment and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
