Ghafari Document Control Specialist (Engineering) in Dearborn, Michigan

Responsibilities

The Document Control Specialist (Engineering) will handle engineering document maintenance and organization, including but not limited to these essential job functions:

  • Responsible for obtaining Record Documents (BIM, PDF files, reports, specs, etc.) from AE/Contractor/PM at project completion, and filing correctly in Autodesk Vault. This will involve seeking out these documents and not waiting for them to arrive.

  • Responsible for ensuring that documents received are complete and in the proper format for filing in Autodesk Vault. BIM files may be missing references, or the reference files may have been renamed and not remapped. Part of the job would be to contact the AE/Contractor if there are issues with the documents received and to request new ones.

  • Responsible for obtaining existing facility documents not already in Vault system from AEs and Contractors, and seeking out any missing documentation.

  • Assign Document Project Numbers to all documents.

  • Manage the setup of Ford Land’s Autodesk BIM 360 (or similar software) for projects. This setup would include the file structure to be used for a project, and handling requests for access to the BIM 360 tools (or similar) used on a particular project.

  • Write procedures and work instructions for AE/Contractor/PM on how to submit record and as-built information.

  • Write and update work instructions and procedures for use of SpecLink-E system, and maintain documents within the system.

  • Support and Maintain the Construction Document website for secured access by suppliers/partners. Organize specifications and the administration of the website.

  • Implement new facility numbering system to set up and organize new projects.

  • Organize/record documents for Engineering Clearinghouse review meetings w/ PM’s: Document Review 30/60/90 checklists, file comments as necessary.

  • Work w/ scheduling PM’s for project reviews, prior distribution of documents to the assigned engineers for reviews.

Qualifications

Employment Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree required; Bachelor's degree desired

  • Previous experience with an Architectural/Engineering firm in a document control capacity preferred but not required

  • Minimum of 5 years experience related to document control

  • Willingness to learn/obtain LEED certification if requested

  • Knowledge with various engineering software systems, such as AutoCAD, Revit, as well as other BIM 360 tools.

  • Knowledge of facility operations and industry practices desired

  • Excellent oral/written communications, as well as organizational skills

  • Willingness to travel to various local facilities to acquire documents, as needed
