Ghafari Mechanical Designer - Piping/Process Systems in Chicago, Illinois
Ghafari Associates is looking for Mechanical Designers to join the team. This role will support nationwide projects and report to a manager out of the Dearborn, MI office. Candidates can choose to be HYBRID, or 100% IN OFFICE in our Chicago office location, or FULLY REMOTE with availability to travel to the Dearborn, MI office occasionally to support project activity.
The Mechanical Designer will coordinate design activities with project engineers and with other team members. The Mechanical Designer will participate in the preparation and development of project deliverables, ensure project deliverable quality and perform project assignments.The Mechanical Designer participates in meetings, provides feedback to engineering and project team members, performs basic system related engineering calculations, participates in design development activities and implementation support.
Understand basics of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes, including HVAC and piping systems, for which systems will be designed.
Create and plot drawings from sketches and drawing mark-ups. Produce CAD drawings from engineering mark-ups.
Measure, sketch, and verify existing conditions of equipment, building, etc. Retrieve plant reference drawings and perform field data gathering.
Review and understand client specifications and Safety Codes & Standards, as they relate to various assignments.
Participate with project teams and clients to prepare or edit project specifications.
Participate in client review meetings of drawings and specifications.
Produce system as-built/as-installed drawings from red-lined mark-ups.
Coordinate project with other disciplines.
Review product submittals for design content (shop drawings), specify action to be taken to reach specification compliance (to be reviewed with the project engineer)
Education and Experience:
Prefer Bachelor Degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited university.
Prefer 1 - 5 years of related work experience.
Must be proficient in AutoCAD. Revit proficiency is a plus.
Proficient in MS Office.
Working knowledge of process system engineering and design.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
