Ghafari Mechanical Designer (HVAC/Building Systems) in Chicago, Illinois
Responsibilities
Ghafari Associates, LLC., is looking for a Mechanical Designer to join the team. The candidate can work remotely or hybrid, depending on project needed, from any of our following offices: Chicago, Dearborn, Indianapolis, Grand Rapids, Dallas/Ft. Worth , or Birmingham , AL.
The Mechanical Designer D2 , with some supervision from the Manager of Mechanical Engineering, will provide or extend mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing and fire protection) design for new construction and/or renovation of industrial, commercial institutional facilities as requested by the client. The Mechanical Designer D2 will develop construction drawings which address the installation, integration, interconnection and control of mechanical components within applicable building codes.
Essential Job Functions:
With assistance, formulate design and layout of mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, plumbing, and fire protection.
Create engineering documents using computer aided design (CAD) technology utilizing Autodesk (Revit and AutoCAD) and/or Bentley CAD software (2D and 3D applications)
Conduct field measuring and checking at the construction site
Review drawings for omissions, errors, overall quality, content accuracy, with team members and engineer(s).
Review product submittals for design content (shop drawings), specify action to be taken to reach specification compliance (to be reviewed with the project engineer)
With guidance, perform calculations for sizing equipment, duct work and piping
Coordinate project with other disciplines
Perform related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Technology or related field preferred
Experience:
- 4-8 years related and progressively more responsible experience in mechanical engineering/construction field
Skills/Competencies:
Profciency with Revit, AutoCAD, and/or Bentley Microstation software, Trane Trace 700, Microsoft Office (emphasis in Word and Excel)
Familiarity with BIM 360
Excellent written and verbal communication
Strong attention to detail
